Day 6-ish continued - Mixed signals, no signals, too many signals???

Published by mollym under Revolution Edit This

OK, this is the date blog. But first I want to preface it with a little convo with Legal Eagle the night before as The Doc and I were setting up plans.

Me: Oh, he misspells a lot. (Upon reading another misspelling).

LE: Like what?

ME: Well once he texted me and misspelled hilarious.

LE: Oh please say he spelled it with two l’s!

Me:…yeah.

LE: What else?

Me: Well on his Facebook he misspelled craziness once.

LE: Oh god! Please tell me it was with a y!!

Me:…yeah.

LE and Me: (lots of laughing).

OK, back to the date. We went bowling at a very old school place, with a janky lounge and lots of old, raunchy couples. It was a pretty great place. But rewind to when I met him at his apartment.

I have previously met one of his roommates and got to meet the other one (side note: they both seem pretty cool). However here is how I was introduced:

Doc: Hey Dan, this is my friend Molly.

Now, while I’m not expecting to be introduced as a date or girlfriend, in fact, please don’t, but can’t he just say my name and leave the friend part out because it just seems weird.

Oh and then on the drive over, he was telling me how he had spent the day with his family and that his mom had asked who he was going out with tonight. He told her and my name is apparently her favorite name and she had wanted to name her daughter that. I’m pretty sure I had a mild panic attack at the thought of me being in any conversation and he so didn’t need to tell me.

I know I tell my parents about him, but I would never tell him that I do. (Yes, this is me making rules for him to follow, but that I can break).

But bowling was fun and we split games (although I won my game by more, so technically I won the overall score). And while there is plenty of stuff that he does that I find odd, we do have a good time and I think a similar sense of humor, plus he calls me out on all my bullshit, which is refreshing since I tend to try to get away with a lot.

I could go on much longer, but I actually do have work to do and LE and I have been over and over the date a million times, sorting out everything. And all I have come to figure out is:

- He’s thinking about buying a house…scary!

- He’s good on paper.

- His schedule makes it very hard to make plans (Oh, he explained why he doesn’t make plans in advance because he never knows just when he’ll get out and he wouldn’t want to have to cancel on me).

- He’s considerate…I suppose.

- He doesn’t expect me to pay (I chipped in $2 for our date because I had cash and he didn’t and we needed cash) and he appreciated it.

I guess for now I’m in limbo.

But, 4th of July is upon us and LE and I will be going to HB all day! They have a parade and fireworks and should be soooo much fun. Plus they set all this stuff up on the pier and everywhere. Should be good times and she doesn’t even know about it yet! Super excited!

Oh and I have no reference to WILAY right now, but:

my mom loves Gary, so this is for her

Day 6ish? - Heaven sent

Published by mollym under Revolution Edit This

This had to be one of the overall funniest weekends in a little while.

Legal Eagle and I were quite busy going to Venice’s Eco-fest and then to San Diego on Sunday to get some free stuff and sit through a boring timeshare presentation.

Eco-Fest

Venice is amazing. I definitely want to live there and sit at all the little cafes and watch some paddle tennis.

But onto Eco-Fest. It was very cool, very nature-y and overall a great time. LE and I adopted a little tree that we will nurture, but have no idea where it will be planted when it gets any bigger. Oops.

But the best part was getting our handwriting analyzed! I got mine done twice, LE only once. Here are the things I learned about myself (the highlights at least) :

- I sleep on 90% of the bed throughout the night (Well, I do toss and turn).

- I’m a control freak and like to make rules for everyone else to follow, except myself (This may actually be true when I think about it)

- I take things literally (The lady said when someone says “Nice shirt” I respond with “I know.” LE got a good laugh at this because she always points out how funny it is that I always say this when people compliment me)

- Some people I might be interested in, but I make most people come to me and do the work…very true.

- Oh! I have a healthy ego! This could be very wrong though.

Well, as you can see this was all fun. LE apparently uses very small word when she is angry and doesn’t like corporate authority…ha, true!

But the best part of Eco-Fest came when we were walking back to the car and this older man on a bike was chatting us up. We both assumed him to be gay and he had a little friend with him, a younger guy (who I assumed as gay as well, but LE didn’t). But while he was chatting us up, he said:

Where are you girls from…other than heaven?

I love it! I am such a sucker for bad lines like that, especially when they come out of nowhere. It really made my day.

San Diego

Sunday we went down to San Diego to hear about a timeshare, so we could get free stuff. This was the day we had to be a couple.

So we went and met our guide Bosko. That’s right, Bosko. He was a trip to say the least. Here is a list of his highlights:

- Asked us to take off our sunglasses while he was talking to us, I assume because he had a feeling we were watching other things and not paying attention (which was true).

- Showed us a model room and while I wandered off, yelled at me to stay near to hear what he was saying.

- As we were declining the offer of the timeshare, he says “I thought you two were educated.”

- When he is trying to figure us out and Legal Eagle keeps telling him that I’m in charge of the money, he asks “Are you girls g-g-gay?” (Which LE of course says yes to).

Those were my favorite Bosko moments, however LE probably topped all my moments because she is such a good liar.

As we are being asked to sign up and I am saying “no” in every way possible, she says, “Well, I want to keep her (me) happy, so I don’t think we can.” I’m surprised I could keep from laughing, but they so bought it and were like, “Oh, you’ll be comfortable with your lifestyle here.”

But we got out and got our goodies. I’m sure there are many Bosko moments that I am missing, but there isn’t enough time in the world to write them all.

All in all, there were some very good, funny moments and I think Holly and Val would be proud.

A separate blog will be coming up soon about the date with The Doc last night. Tyra is on now and it’s a good one and I want to read some Shopaholic and maybe work a little and I am still trying to wrap my head around the date anyway, so patience please!

Day 5 - She’s my partner

Published by mollym under Revolution Edit This

*side note: roomie will now be referred to as Legal Eagle, as we decided that she needed a better nickname on here than roomie. I may choose to shorten it to LE at times when I am lazy.

OK, so Legal Eagle and I went to a Panic at the Disco concert a few weekends ago and signed up to go see a timeshare in Escondido this Sunday.

When we first moved out here, we did a similar thing and got some money for it. That’s the thing, you can get awesome gifts if you go and are smart enough to not buy into it. So for this one, I believe we will be getting concert tickets, movie tickets and a trip to Vegas? Needless to say we are super excited and I am all prepared to turn them down.

Here is the catch though, last time we had to pretend not to know each other. LE is great at this. Me not so much. I laugh the whole time and can’t even look at her.

This time however, it’s a little different. We get to go together and everything, but we have to pretend to “be together.”  That’s right, she’s my domestic partner for Sunday.

I even got a call to confirm the appointment and it went like this:

Them: And Legal Eagle is coming with you?

Me: Yes.

Them: And she’s your roommate…or is she your partner?

Me: …she’s my partner.

I totally considered saying she was my roommate, but I knew that Holly would do whatever it took to make the situation more awkward and funny.

But then after this convo on the phone, I watch the WILAY (What I Like About You) episode where Holly and Vince are pranking each other and she has to fake marry Ben, but then for some reason Gary offers to.

wilay

So am I Ben or Gary and which one is Legal Eagle? I suppose I would be Ben, he isn’t very good at lying. But Sunday should be fully entertaining if I can hold it together.

Oh and Legal Eagle and I are going to hang out with some hippies Saturday and eat some vegan food or something. I probably won’t shower beforehand so that I fit in better. Legal Eagle is going to fro out her hair.

I feel this weekend will definitely live up to the zany situations that WILAY is famous for. Definitely moving in the right direction.

Day 4 - I do it all for my blog

Published by mollym under Revolution Edit This

I am back on track. The What I Like About You episodes were sooo good yesterday and ones that I have only seen a few times (well a bunch, but less than others).

So I had a thing today that went well and I hope turns out well, but I don’t want to think about it too much.

OK, onto the topic that has been the topic for a while now. The Doc texted me last night. Yes, he responded, saying he had fallen asleep because he was up at 5 am for work, but wants to go bowling this Sunday (bowling had been my suggestion last week and no, I will not use my gift card on him). I got this text about 10 minutes after I had headed to bed, so I rolled my eyes I’m sure and fell asleep.

This morning was very focused on something that could be very good for me, so I was busy with that. But I was considering what, if I would, text back. And I knew I would have to consult the usual suspects. But it was early and my oldest sister was on her way to DC, but I knew exactly what she would say.

Me: He texted me to go out Sunday.

Sister: Cool, so you’re going?

Me: Well, he’s been kind of flaky and I don’t know if he deserves a date with me.

Sister: Yeah, but he’s finally doing the one thing you made a huge deal about, planning in advance.

Me: …

And then as I thought of this exchange I also thought of the episode yesterday when Val is getting back into dating, but finds little things wrong with each guy.

Holly yells at her (as she often does even when just talking which is why I adore her), which convinces Val to go out with a guy who does end up having a stuffed toy for each woman he’s slept with, which is odd, but she does it anyway.

holly and val

So my oldest sister will be my Holly today and I will go out with him again. But he better not blow it because this boy is on thin ice.

However, I still had to consult with the roomie about going out with him again and she provided some very wise advice.

Me: Guess who texted?

Roomie: (her nickname for him)?

Me: Yeah

Roomie: What’d he want? To admit to being a douche bag?

Me: (laughs) No, he wants to go out Sunday. (Shows roomie the text)

Roomie: (makes face) Well…it’ll be good for your blog.

And then it was completely decided because I cannot let my blog down. I refuse to pass up a chance to have a wonderful and hilarious day-after blog just because he has been pretty lame in the past.

Oh and my roommate is quite looking forward to hearing all the details when I get home from it. Stories like him calling me “sweetie” provide her with laughter for days.

But if anyone out there knows how to kindly get someone to stop calling you “sweetie” without just saying, “Oh, can you not call me that. It completely weirds me out,” then I would love love love to know!

Day 3 - So this is why they don’t have pets

Published by mollym under Revolution Edit This

Finished up in Ontario, blah blah blah and came home today feeling all calm and zen until I walked in the front door.

My cat Barbar has been getting sick. Well not all the time, but he gets hairballs (at least we think it’s him because we don’t have evidence to the contrary), but I got home to him having been sick which is not a pleasant thing to come home to at all. So zen was gone and now I know why Holly and Val never had a pet. The reality is soooo not glamorous. Although I wouldn’t trade my little monster for the world.

my cat

But alas, my apartment, clothes and everything would probably all be in a lot better shape. Wonder if this is how people feel after they have children? Probably.

Also came home to a bill from our apartment for when our toilet overflowed because we have to have the worst plumbing ever. So, my Holly and Val-ness is put on hold because now I have to deal with these sucky little things. Did their toilet ever overflow? I know Val once got her hand stuck in it, but she had Vic to help her out. I guess this is better than having my hand stuck in a toilet.

val and vic and charlie

Made a trip to the grocery store, my least favorite place in the world, but felt like it could be therapeutic if I really tried, but then they didn’t have my face wash, so I stood in the aisle trying to find a new one for about 15 minutes. I’m sure most women can sympathize.

So I’ve decided that today will be my day to crash and get off course a little as I have a million and one things that I should be doing right now. Plus a while ago I had completely organized and filed my emails, which have now gotten out of control and I’m struggling to find anything. I’ll get back on track with my plans tomorrow, after I enjoy some What I Like About You episodes later today.

Oh! But I did have a very glamorous moment in the mail when I got a major gift card to a hipster bowling alley that I covered an event at for one of my freelancing gigs! So roomie and I will definitely be making a trip to go bowling.

And on a weird note, The Doc called me last night to see if I wanted to hang out this week. What’s his deal? I texted him to let me know when he’s free and so far have gotten nothing back. I’m about ready to write him off completely, so very over this back and forth game.

Everyone should be crossing their fingers tomorrow because I will be making a major step in my goals, hopefully! I’ll explain more (although most know what’s going on) if everything goes well!

And one thing I definitely need to do is get the second Shopaholic book, I am soooo addicted thanks to my mom. I feel like I’m in withdrawal!
