I’m getting all Carrie Bradshaw on this blog today and asking the deep questions: Is Chivalry Dead? (only my oldest sister will probably find this funny as we used to make fun of her lame questions every episode)

^ Google’s image of chivalry. Whatever, I expected to see a guy doing the dishes.

OK, back to why I am even talking about this.

Weekend recap:

Friday night - the cast of characters.

LE: You all know her.

LEC: LE’s Coworker.

LECB: LE’s Coworker’s Boyfriend.

B/B: LE’s Coworker’s Boyfriend’s Friend (not to be confused with BB, his nickname is just very similar).

NTM: New Tool McToolson (I occasionally refer to The Doc as Tool McToolson, but then I referred to this new guy as Tool McToolson, so the “New” part had to be added as I confused LE).

Setting - Long Beach Fundraiser Party.

LE and I meet LEC and LECB and B/B and LEC’s sister. So LECB has been trying to set LE up with B/B. He is nice, a bit gooberish and not really LE’s type.

But, alas, they try and LE is nice and B/B seems a little too passive, but not sucky enough for LE to just blow off.

So we all get there, get some drinks (shout-out to LE for being my DD) and meet some more of LEC and LECB’s friends.

Then….we all go sit down in some VIP area or something, whatever. And of course I sit in between LE and B/B. Not a big deal. Then I find out that NTM is there and LECB wants to set me up with him. Whatever, he’s taller than me, good start.

So the sitting continues and during this NTM buys B/B a shot (important info for later).

Then NTM comes over to me and pulls me over the where he is sitting. This is so that B/B can “make his move and get to know LE.”

So I go sit between NTM and LECB while B/B sits next to LE and everyone thinks things are going great. (I am later asked if LE is into B/B and I say, “Oh I don’t know.” Yeah, because I don’t work and live with her and talk to her about everything so how could I possibly know?)

But life goes on and NTM tries to chat me up. We exchange what we do for work. I explain freelancing to him and he says he’s going to “Google” me to see what I’ve written. Good luck, there is some swimmer with the same name who has won a ton of things and some lame TV hostess. And are you really supposed to tell someone you will “Google” them?

He works for Edison. Snore! Although he tried a lame joke that he did something else, can’t remember, but it was not funny.

Night continues and before I know it I am stuck sitting with NTM alone. And while he seemed so-so up until now, he became a total Tool.

The next conversation went something like this:

NTM: Kiss me.

Me: Excuse me?! (combo of raised eyebrows, eye rolling and laughing)

We get back onto normal convo and I wonder if I can find LE. NTM asks me if I want to dance and I realize LE is probably out dancing as she had said “I might be in the mood for dancing tonight.”

So we head towards the dance floor and NTM pauses and I realize he’s chickened-out. He doesn’t want to dance and is waiting for me to make a move out the the floor. Then! LE appears behind me and I rejoice! All three of us head back to our seats.

LE and us quickly chit chat about how she had headed out with B/B to make everyone think they were hitting it off…ha! But NTM can’t handle that LE is there apparently or can’t handle not having attention or whatever.

Then this conversation goes on:

Me: We’re just having girl talk. (said not in a bitchy way).

NTM: Well have fun with that. (and walks away)

We have ourselves a pouter!

Night goes on and I recap LE on everything. Then we meet up with NTM again and the next convo goes like this.

NTM: So we’re closing out here and heading to Seal Beach. You coming? (maybe not exact words, but similar).

Me: Don’t know. I’ll have to see what we want to do.

NTM: Well, do whatever you want.

Oh, thank you! I can do whatever I want? How awesome!

LE and I did end up going to Seal Beach with everyone else, but to a different place than NTM I think. Haha!

So then LE and I of course had to recap our nights and wonder…is chivalry dead?

Not once did NTM ask to buy me a drink (and he bought his friend a shot, so he isn’t that poor) nor did he tell me I looked nice or give me any sort of compliment (LE was overcomplimented by B/B, which we decided is better than no compliment).

Also, what was he possibly expecting? I know LEC and LECB wouldn’t say anything bad about me, so this boy was seriously confused.

Hope this wasn’t too hard to follow.

On a more “chivalrous” note: The Doc texted me Happy Valentine’s Day on Saturday. Said he’d like to take me out when he gets back from traveling this month (I think he has this whole month off from work if I’m not mistaken). The plot thickens…

I went back to Chicago for my dad’s birthday and it was soooooo much fun!
Barbar is the same.
I want to be a dog walker and a housesitter.
I have no time for anything.
Must be better at scheduling my life.
Is it March 1 yet?

Things I will miss in this miserable city:

1. Scurve (how can I help him before leaving?)

2. Shirtless bus guy who drinks “coffee”

3. Belly girl (we either saw her twin the other day or she got a haircut)

4. Venus

5. The Lounge

6. Park Ave.

7. Jorge Chavez (Senor Chavez)

8. Georgie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. The Gossip Girls down the way who have always looked after us

10. Our big bathroom

11. The teeny tiny library where we went everyday until we had internet

12. Starbucks across the street

13. Stupid Bella Terra mall

Ahh…so happy to be moving. Now if only we could figure out how to move all our stuff. Too bad the cats aren’t stronger.

LE: Why did you wait so long to tell me?

Me: I only just noticed. The design on front looks the same inside-out.

LE: Is it obvious?

Me: Well, I can see the tag.

LE: That’s so embarrassing. I’m gonna go flip it. (moments later) Does it look better?

Me: Well, it’s on the right way now, so yeah.

LE: Shut up.

LE probably will hate that I’ve put this up on here, but it was seriously one of the best laughs I’ve had in a long time.

That’s the highlight of the week.

BBQ tomorrow! And then a whole lot of boring work, including Sunday! Shouldn’t I be resting like God? Too bad I’m not all religious then I could use that excuse.

Last week, Legal Eagle invited me to some lawyer dinner thing that her boss was taking her office to.

LE: So you want to come?

Me: Will it be horribly boring?

LE: [Boss] is paying for dinner, it’s like $40.

Me: Oooh…I haven’t had someone buy me dinner in a long time.

LE: I just bought us dinner the other night.

Me: Yeah, but this is debt-free. I always have to buy you dinner back.

This is when I discovered that I no longer will be going on dates. I will be going on debt-free dinners, debt-free movies, debt-free comedy shows (well that last one is just a dream).

^ Best image I could find of my debt-free dinner. Hmm…not quite what I was hoping for.

Onto other things.

Bride Brain’s matron-of-honor emailed all us gals (worst word ever, but seems fitting) about the bridal shower and bachelorette party.

The email was in hot pink. Try reading an email in hot pink if you never have. Fun times.

It said something along the lines of this:

I’m planning the shower for April so BB can have all of May to relax. (Why? Is she having surgery??) We need a venue, food, drinks, blah blah blah. Let’s get cracking!

OK, so really only the first sentence was like what she said, but you get it.

So, I responded as such:

Dear Holy Matron of Honor,

I am but a meager freelancer living in the slums of California. I would give my right arm to participate in these joyous occasion, but alas, I have yet to find someone in need of a random right arm.

Therefore, I would like to offer my help in any way I can (from a distance). I will make crafty projects out of newspaper clippings or bake cookies from leftovers. While I am not familiar with [city], I would be more than happy to search around high and low for a place to hold this momentous event.

Thank you for including little, poor me in your wonderful world of weddings.

In awe,

Me

P.S. LE can’t come either. She hates this whole wedding.

OK, so maybe that isn’t word for word, but I did mention that we can’t afford it. And then…………………………

MOH emailed back (and FORWARDED it to everyone!) because she included bachelorette stuff, so now everyone knows we’re poor!

And she was all like “Oh, so sad you can’t come.” Yeah, right!

Now I tried to find an image of an evil bridesmaid, but had no luck. So I Googled “hate weddings” and here is the first image.

^ Haha. Awesome.

Yes, I have been working from home for a while now, but now Legal Eagle is here too!

We spent all weekend transforming our dining room area into an office and I love it. There are still some things to clean up and I will post pictures when we are done, but it totally looks like an office.

Plus, we are so WILAY right now. (And LE’s office phone has this weird alien ring to it).

Convo with Middle Sister about the offices:

Middle Sister: Just don’t put your desks facing each other.

Me: No, they’re facing the TV.

Middle Sister: You’re not going to get any work done.

But, I have managed to work today!

The cats love the office, although Barbar thinks it means we are available to play all day (well, I am, but don’t tell anyone).

I have some major Bride Brain wedding updates, but those will come in another post. I’m excited to get my 2 sizes too big dress in the next couple of months.

Middle Sister is Facebook obsessed. Yikes! Her dog Martini has a page. I am friends with him. Wow, this is a sign that I really need to get back to work. More later gators!!!

I’m not one to make resolutions for the new year.

But this year I just feel like I should be.

So here they are:

1. Read more. I have a billion books from a billion places that are just sitting there.

2. Get finances in order. This will be harder, but I should probably stick to it.

3. Create clip book. I really need to get all this in order and find a nice book for my clips.

4. Get my Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster framed. It’s been too long.

5. Be OK with going to Bride Brain’s wedding alone. Finding a date to fly to Iowa is hard.

6. Write ideas down when I have them.

7. Spend more time at the beach. I think this one will work well.

8. Do more things that will make me laugh and give me stories to tell when I’m 80.

9. Help my cat lose a pound or two.

10. Bring Barkley back to life and better than ever!

I think that’s a pretty good list.

There is so not much going on right now. I’ll have to work on that as well. Until next time…

I’m baaack!

I don’t even know where to begin.

Well, I’ll start with something that is becoming very WILAY: I am working at home currently (and about to get paid!) and LE is going to start working from home too! We’re going to have coffee breaks even…yay!

And we’re going to move our desks into the dining room/kitchen-y area, so that it is more work-y (as opposed to having my desk by my bed where I am often tempted to just roll from my chair to my bed to nap).

I went home to Chicago for Christmas and had a blast. It was cold and icy, but Martini welcomed me with open arms. He was really great. Oh and I went to this lounge where the vodka tonics were $9! Insane!

New Years was also lovely. We hadn’t planned to do anything and then went out with a group and had such a good tme.

It’s so very chilly here and I’m ready for beach weather to be back. Also, haven’t heard from Bride Brain in a while. Maybe it’s time to send her an email?

I so had something I was going to write, but now it is completely forgotten.

Oh, I heard from The Doc during my flight back to California (while in Vegas where I was stuck for four hours after just barely making my Chicago flight out). Pretty random. We’ll see.

On a sad note: Jennifer Love Hewitt and her fiance have broken up. I was really hoping she had really found The One this time. No, I’m not being sarcastic. Poor girl.

More later!

Oh, I remembered. I was going to write about Ageless Dan. Ahh…went to my mom’s work Xmas party. Met Ageless Dan, who barely said hi to me, but immediately asked, “Where’s (middle sister)?”

Note: Middle sister used to work at my mom’s place so she knows people there.

OK, so that’s fine, but then my mom told me how he always asks about her. So, we concluded that he loves her or something and teased her all week about it.

Then, when my mom got back to work, she informed me that that day he asked about me and called me a cutie and said she could give me his number! And she didn’t even think he was joking!

Well, I was confused by this, so I have now concluded that it doesn’t matter which of me or my sisters he dates, he is really after having my mom as his mother-in-law. Weird, but she does make good cookies!
